Of course, with the advent of this technology, we’re seeing more and more products hitting the market that supposedly offer the same kind of action and permanent results of professional salons, but they’re certainly not all created equal. Hopefully this article sheds a little light on the best options you have.
So, What Are My Options, Really?
I’m not going to beat around the bush- if you’re looking for the best at home laser hair removal, and I mean the BEST, you really only have two options: The Tria, and the unfortunately named Silk’n SensEpil (it doesn’t quite roll off the tongue, does it?). The reason we can easily narrow it down to these two to begin with is because no other home laser products have been approved by the FDA!
The two products share similar features and work on basically identical technology, but there are some key differences that will affect your choice. I have used both, to great success, but I run a hair removal blog and you don’t, so you’ll probably want to save money by picking the product that’s a better fit for you.
Which Is Safer?
This is the obvious question on a lot of peoples’ minds, after all, ten years ago you had to go find and pay a professional a lot of money for the same treatment. The good thing is, they’re both perfectly safe!
Both the SensEpil and Tria work by hitting your hair follicle with a laser that affects it on a cellular level, disrupting its growth and ultimately, over the course of your treatments, destroying it so it never grows back. It sounds a little scary, and it is permanent, but there are plenty of safeguards built in to make sure there is no risk of damaging your skin or anything besides the hair you’re treating.
OK, Which One Is Easier To Use?
Both devices were designed with ease of use in mind. These are aimed at everybody, not just gadget freaks, so they’re almost effortless to use. In fact, most people do something else, like watch TV, while they’re doing treatments.
Basically, you’ll be holding the laser against your skin for a moment, and then moving it, and repeating. That’s really pretty much it, no joke.
The SensEpil requires you to press a button each time you put it against your skin, though, while The Tria doesn’t. I click a mouse all day already, so I prefer the button-free action of the Tria.
More importantly to most people, the cordless design of The Tria makes it slightly easier to maneuver to any part of your body, and the slightly smaller laser means it’s easier to reach small areas you’re treating. Of course, this comes with a trade off, and we’ll see in the next section.
Well, Which One Will Take Less Of My Time?
I mentioned the smaller size of The Tria’s laser, and it’s precisely this smaller size that makes it take a little more of your time. The Silk’n SensEpil has a larger laser, which means it treats larger sections of your skin with each blast of light, resulting in an overall quicker treatment.
It’s hard to say exactly why this is since I used the products on different parts of my body, but I saw results a little faster with the Silk’n, as well.
Does One Hurt More? If So, I Want The Other…
The SensEpil and Tria both have adjustable intensity settings, so how much discomfort you feel is really up to you, but even the highest settings aren’t terribly painful. Most people compare using either device on the high settings to being snapped lightly with a warm elastic band.
If you have sensitive skin, though, just turn the intensity down, and you can have a truly painless hair removal experience!
Here’s another area where The Tria’s smaller laser gives it an advantage- the smaller footprint means less skin is under the laser at each flash, which naturally means you’ll feel less discomfort each time.
About Those Results…
As far as results go, you’re going to do fine with either product. Just like you would get if you paid thousands of bucks for professional treatments, these products offer the best laser hair removal at home and ultimately give you PERMANENTLY SMOOTH, HAIR FREE SKIN!
I felt that my results along the way were a little better and more even with the Tria, but I want to stress that this could be entirely due to the parts of my body I used them on, or maybe even my own sloppiness. But the final results were nothing short of spectacular! 😀
But What If Budget Is My Main Concern?
If you’re looking for the cheaper deal, than the Tria wins, hands down, because it’s regular price is already about a hundred bucks less than the Silk’n SensEpil.
That said, both companies are offering some pretty good deals right now that will save you a good chunk of change off the list price. Of course, this is subject to change whenever, and my guess is the prices for both will rise as this type of treatment becomes more popular.
The Winner: The Tria Laser, By A Nose
I’d say that while both products offer a very affordable method of getting smooth, hairless skin, forever, The Tria is slightly superior, because it’s cheaper, slightly easier to use, and has better interim results.
So there you have it folks- my pick for best home laser hair removal product is The Tria. If you’d like to read more about either product, click here for my Tria review, or here for my write up on the Silk’n SensEpil.
